Post Dance Music Making a Come Back; YEAR END REVIEW pt1
I remember back when I made this prediction; THE BEATS ARE SPEEDING UP! and DANCE MUSIC IS IN THE PROCESS OF MAKING A COME BACK......etc. I came up with this "DMC Theory" (Dance Music Comeback) just about over a year or two ago, and finally made my first comment about it at various sites within a few months after coming up with this theory. Back then, it wasn't anything much.... just a little 1,2 step here, a S.O.S by Rihanna there, and some my humps, but nothing much. I spoke and wrote about it a little, then mentioned that the beats would continue to get faster, more and more people would catch on to this, then made my final statement saying "if this is how things are sounding now, just wait and see what it will be like next year.." (- next year meaning 2007). After that, I shut up and spoke nothing more about it........

NOW IT IS THE END OF THE YEAR!

All I ask is that everyone reading this, take a little time this New Years weekend and listen to the end of the year (music) countdowns on your (top 40/rhythmic/urban) stations, and listen for songs that are up-tempo, that sound as is they are 125 bpm or higher. (If you have a station like 106.9 or something like that, I'm not expecting you to sit there and listen to the top 106 or 107 jams all day long..... but just listen for....maybe 30-40 minutes or so.) Try to remember the amount of fast paced (freestyle/bass/break/house) sounding songs that you heard as you listened. Now think back to last year at this time, and see if you can remember if there were as many fast paced (freestyle/bass/break/house) sounding songs as you heard this year.

You don't even have to go as far as to last year, just go back to Spring 2006, or back to whenever S.O.S. by Rihanna came out. Think about the songs back then. Think about the songs now. You will realize that SOMETHING IS GOING ON, and people DO want to hear faster beats - it's not only becoming, but HAS ALREADY BECOME the norm once again for these faster (freestyle/bass/break/house) sounding beats to be heard on top 40 radio, MTV.....etc!

I knew that there would be an increase to the number of up-tempo dance/bass-like songs that would hit mainstream radio, but I never expected it to reach this magnitude so fast! I actually thought we would be at the point in which we're at now, sometime in the middle of 2007. If this type of music is continued to be produced at this rate, then it must be safe to assume that at the least, booty bass will make a full come back in 2007, and this may possibly lead to breaks and dance/house songs making it to top 40! Just like scientists are predicting global warming, I am predicting radio breaking!

~More breakbeat-like songs in the mainstream~

I think it has gotten to the point where I don't even have to make a list of songs to create an example of what I'm talking about - certain songs automatically come to mind as you read this!

Despite the fact that a lot of the music in the top 40 these days is kind of.........(how can I put this delicately..) - WHACK, it is still exciting to see what is happening, and that this evolution in (top 40/rhythmic/reggae) music is happening now. Logically thinking, people would assume that if music continues to get faster and faster, everything will be Drum & Bass by 2012 - and yes, I did actually have someone say this after I explained my DMC Theory. That thinking may be logical, but....................it is also dumb.
....But that's beside the point.

The point is this; THE DANCE/BREAK BEATS ARE once again, PRETTY MUCH HERE TO STAY, and it will only be a matter of time before Bass compilations and other similar stuff are recreated and replaced back on to store shelves - of course, with the more modernized sounds of todays (and tomorrows) music. You will start (or already have been) hearing up-tempo mixes on your local radio stations during mix shows, with NEW uptempo songs, instead of only hearing fast stuff during the OLDSCHOOL mix or BACK IN THE DAY mixes. Of course, as D.J.'s play these new faster songs, it would be MUCH easier for them to throw in other faster stuff as well (like real dance music) without fear of losing their crowd/listeners. ...........................

I just can't wait to see what it's like at this time next year - booty bass? freestyle? It's HIGHLY possible that at some point, someone will use a fast beat AND decide to throw in an electro sound as well, but make it hot enough to make top 40 radio/club, and this could be an ENTIRE NEW WAVE of that modernized version, of the old school sound that people like Dj Juanito, Glenn Gutierrez, Dj Felony, Cibola, Haus-a-holics..etc used to do. Remember Angelina, M:G, Planet Soul, Lil Suzy, Adriana, Jocelyn Enriquez, Jossette, Lina Santiago......etc. If you listen to "Fergelicious", you will notice that it samples "supersonic" and "give it all you got".... but THAT IS NOT THE AMAZING PART! Listen closer, and you will notice the hint of a light electro sound that goes along with the drum patterns during certain parts of the song, and if someone actually sang through instead of rapping, it could VERY EASILY cross over to freestyle! Notice the new one by Gwen Ste.... I meant Rihanna f/ Sean Paul. Yes it has a hint of reggae, but it also has a very strong touch of bass and freestyle elements to it!

...........................and I remember back when I thought "git up" by Ciara was exciting! I actually remember back when I thought "1,2 step" was such a big thing, but compare those little songs to what's happening now - IT DOESN'T EVEN COMPARE! And you think these songs now are something? WAIT UNTIL NEXT SUMMER.....and I shall stop here and leave it at that.

I don't know what will happen in music, but one thing I can be sure about is SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN!

bass. breaks.

It's coming............................

Okay, I agree that the new Rihanna/Sean Paul sample is beat-heavy...but it's a dancehall track. Those dudes are afraid of neither fastpaced tracks, nor bleeps and bloops.

The only truly original spot is "Get Up", since all the rest are sampled.

...Wow! That's exactly true. Sometime ago, I wanted to make a comment about Ciara's git up being the only original thing to come out, but I didn't have access to a computer, and forgot about it ever since. The "my humps" (li'l jon remix) beat and "don't phunk with my heart" beats are original as well, despite the fact that some of the lyrics might not be. We had "s.o.s." by Rihanna and "man eater" by Nelly Furtado - those were close enough, but we still need someone to come out and actually use a house beat and make it to top 40. Bob Sinclair doesn't really count. We need somebody that will do something so powerful that others would follow that style. Missy did the breaks thing, and it kind of worked. Next thing you know, L.L. Cool J. tries it......etc - to the point where Fergie, Gwen Stephani, Nelly Furtado, and others have also sped up. Even Christina Aguilera threw in her two cents. Now there is a bass remix of "my love" by Justin that is even being accepted by URBAN/HIPHOP stations! I don't think that same remix wouldv'e worked that well or recieved that much attention 2 years ago today. Well,......................guess everyone will just wait and see what happens next in music. Most people think that Dj Taz did nothing since his hit "that's right", but he is working on some new tracks. He realizes what's going on in music, and you can observe that through the style of his latest tracks. Same thing with Inoj - Inoj is going to be super-hott when she releases her next album.

I know Mr. Collipark is in musical heaven. He was one of the biggest producers when it came to Booty Bass music, and I'm sure that Pitbull will keep....well, doing what he's doing. He found the secret to being able to put out fast tracks in such a way that people have to accept, like, and can't deny them.

I don't get why people are falling off of Madonna though..
